Creative renewable project structuring from Kuwait

CEO Hassan Qasem explains how AEPCo's solar lease model is helping private-sector clients adopt renewable energy in Kuwait and across the region.

Hassan Qasem, CEO of Alternative Energy Projects Company

In an interview with The Energy Year, AEPCo CEO Hassan Qasem discussed the company's approach to financing and operating renewable energy assets and the growing private-sector appetite for solar power in Kuwait.

Qasem highlighted three agreements announced during Kuwait Sustainable Energy Week 2025: a 4 MW material supply agreement with Shajara Sustainability Solutions, a privately leased photovoltaic system at Jaber Mall, and a distributed renewables programme designed to generate 59 GWh per year for a consortium led by Gulf Paramount for Electrical Services Company.

At Jaber Mall, AEPCo will own and operate the solar plant under a 20-year lease while covering financing and maintenance. The structure gives the client a route to renewable power without upfront capital and includes rights to future energy-price adjustment benefits.

The interview also outlined AEPCo's active regional pipeline in Saudi Arabia, Oman and Jordan, alongside its continued pursuit of utility-scale and distributed renewable energy opportunities in Kuwait.
